"But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where theives do not break through nor steal." 3 Nephi 13:20
you need a box, i used a shoe box, and things that represent our "treasures in heaven." some of the things i included were a small Book of Mormon, a picture of Christ, a book to represent learning, photo of our family, photo of the temple, and a paper heart to represent love, charity & relationships.
after assembling your box, bury it somewhere, we have a great spot in the backyard that i dug up and stuck it in. then draw your own "treasure map."
talk about treasure. have your kids brainstorm pirate treasure....jewlery, gold, etc. then read the scripture and discuss heavenly treasure. my girls were getting a little tired of me talking by this point, so i got all excited and said that while cleaning today i had found a "heavenly treasure map." i showed them the map, gave them shovels and off we went.
after they dig up the "treasure" you can talk about all the wonderful things in it.
i think this little activity will always have a special place in my heart because of the sweet feelings i felt while we did it.
